Conductor Kiril Stankow

Kiril Stankow was born in Neubrandenburg in 1982. He got his first piano lessons at the age of five and started playing the bassoon when he was ten. He was a member of the Youth-Symphony Orchestra of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for six years (from 1996 to 2002, when he took his A-levels).

From 1999 to 2003 he was a Young Student at Rostock College of Music, studying the piano with Prof Karl-Heinz Will. He had his first lessons in conducting and repetiteur with Prof C. Göckeritz. In April 2005 Kiril Stankow started his studies in conducting with Prof Nicolás Pasquet, Prof Gunther Kahlert, and Prof Anthony Bramall. Since those days he has regularly conducted various orchestras, like Sonderhausen Loh-Orchestra, Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra Greiz/Reichenbach, Teplice Philharmonic Orchestra, and Jena Philharmonic Orchestra. During his studies Kiril Stankow attended numerous master classes, e.g. with Tomas Koutnik (Prague), GMD George Alexander Albrecht, and Salvador MasConde (press report).

In winter 2007/8 and in summer 2008 he assisted GMD Stefan Malzwe. In summer 2008 he assisted the musical director of the University Opera Production “Der verführte Claudius oder Die verdammte Staatssucht” and took on the conductorship of one performance. In October 2008 he participated in the Fourth University Conducting Competition in Berlin. Kiril Stankow is a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

In summer 2006 he succeeded Kerry Jago as the conductor and musical director of Marburg Young Philharmonic Orchestra.
